Adobe Screen Fonts
Adobe Systems is pleased to provide you with the bitmapped screen fonts complementing the Adobe Type Library, a continually growing collection of PostScript® software based typefaces. This library includes many implementations of the most popular typeface designs in the world. The current library is comprised of over 297 separate packages, each containing between one and eight distinct typefaces.
Bitmapped screen fonts are “bit mapped” images of each of the characters in a given typeface used to display an approximation of the printed page on the Macintosh™ computer's video screen. You can install Adobe screen fonts in your system with the FONT/DA MOVER desk accessory. Refer to the Macintosh Utilities Users Guide for detailed instructions.
To print documents using the screen fonts on this disk, you will need access to the associated printer fonts, either at a PostScript equipped service bureau, or by purchasing the typefaces for your own PostScript printer. (Many PostScript printers come with fonts resident in their memory for your use.) Adobe Systems is shipping an on-screen rasterizer, Adobe Type Manager™. With Adobe Type Manager (ATM), users will be able to scale type on their Macintosh displays, resulting in greater flexibility in using type and far better WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) capabilities. With Adobe Type Manager the need for bit-mapped screen fonts will be reduced, because printer, or outline, fonts are more accurately rendered and scaled on the display.
